The most exciting artistic talent in Leeds have been named, following a new exhibition.

The Vantage Art Prize and Competition was held in new offices at Leeds Valley Park, LS10, near the motorways, overlooking the city with stunning panoramic views.

A total of 114 people, of all ages and genres, from beginners to those working professionally in art, submitted their works, across varying genres including digital, paintings and sculpture.

The overall winner was named as Leeds artist David Steans, who has a studio at East Street Arts, for his 34 minute video titled The Unkindness of Igraine Hustwitt Skelton, who won £1,000.

Second was Bess Martin, who created her work, a “Smash Hits” magazine style questionnaire called ‘Choose Your Own Adventure Gallery Tour’. The third year Leeds Metropolitan University student is studying contemporary art practices, and won £300.

Third place went to John Slemensek for his stunning ‘Orbit’ ice-sculpture, which slowly melted on the exhibition night, leaving dregs of rusty nails, gold leaf and scrap metal in a water tank, won £200.

People’s choice winner was Naomi Gilby, for work called “My wallpaper”.
